Sunday, November 2, 2008, 12:00 pm, Location TBA

HOW TO SUBMIT A RESOLUTION

What is a resolution?

A resolution is a means for members to have input on the priorities, activities, and policies of the HMA.

Who can submit a resolution?

Any individual member, committee, and/or component medical society of the Hawaii Medical Association.

What is the deadline?

The deadline is September 15, 2008.

Why is there a deadline?

Deadlines are established to allow timely distribution of handbooks to delegates in advance of the House of Delegates meeting.

Who will hear the resolution?

The HMA House of Delegates, an elected body of HMA members, will hear and consider all resolutions during its annual meeting.  The 2007 House of Delegates elected Dr. Patricia Blanchette to be the 2008 Speaker of the House.

Where do I submit my resolution(s)?

Email or disk versions of your submissions are preferred.

Send your resolution(s) to:

Nathalie George, CME Coordinator

Attn: House of Delegates

Hawaii Medical Association, 1360 S. Beretania St., Suite 200, Honolulu, HI 96814

or Fax (808) 528-2376; toll free Fax (866) 528-2376

What should a resolution consist of?

Guidelines for resolutions:

  • The title of the resolution should reflect the action the resolution calls for.
  • "Whereas" clauses should accurately support "resolve" clauses.
  • "Resolve" clauses should be written as stand alone statements. The House of Delegates will adopt the "resolve" clauses of resolutions only.
  • Resolutions that call for the expediture of funds, regardless of amount, must include a fiscal note.
  • To assure that the intent of the resolution is clearly understood, please pay attention to grammar, spelling, and sentence structure.
